As a community, the future of the Capital City rests in the hands of its next generation. The young people of today are the leaders of tomorrow, and their legacy begins with the opportunities and experiences afforded to them in these formative years of life. When we empower our youth to get involved, make a difference, and make their voices heard in our community, it sets the stage for a future of engaged community and civic leaders. If the young person in your life is looking to make a difference this school year, the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council is a wonderful way for the leaders of tomorrow to begin making a difference today. If this sounds of interest to you or a student in your life, read onward to learn more regarding how you can get involved!

Applications for the 2024-2025 Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council are now available. In order to apply, students must be residents of Trenton, be currently enrolled in high school, and have an interest in local governance and policy. The Youth Advisory Council was created in order to foster an interest in municipal government operations and civic engagement. The program also offers Trenton youth a powerful pathway to enjoy hands-on public policy experience. As a member of the Youth Advisory Council, students will have the opportunity to interact one on one with city leadership and play an instrumental role in bringing awareness to the issues most important to them.

In order to apply, please submit the following application: Apply – Youth Advisory Council. In addition to the linked questionnaire, students will also be required to submit a copy of their resume. On the application, students will have the chance to share more regarding why they would like to be a member of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council, what sorts of extracurricular activities or leadership roles they are involved in, and what issues are of most importance to them. Students will also have the chance to identify the specific departments or roles within City Hall that they are most interested in learning about. This year’s council will be kicking off before you know it, so be sure to apply as soon as possible!
