Meet multi-disciplinary visual artist Ara Oshagan October 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the JKC Gallery Reception and Artist Talk where Oshagan will launch his book “Displaced.”
Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC’s) James Kerney Campus Gallery (JKCG) is pleased to announce its newest exhibition titled “Ara Oshagan: How the World Might Be.” The show runs from October 13 through December 2, 2022 with an Artist Reception and Book Launch Thursday, October 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. live at JKC Gallery and on the Zoom conferencing platform. The public is invited.
JKC Gallery Director Michael Chovan-Dalton remarked, “Mercer County Community College is thrilled to welcome Ara Oshagan, Los Angeles-based photographer and installation artist to JKC Gallery in Trenton. His works reveal a diasporic personal and familial history that is truly captivating, and his artist talk and book discussion event will certainly be an evening worth remembering.”
Ara Oshagan is an Armenian, multi-disciplinary and intersectional artist working in photography, collage, archive, film, book and installation art. “How the World Might Be” showcases works from several series that weave together the artist’s interests in diasporic possibility, afterlives of displacement and (un)imagined futures.
The exhibit employs photography, film and collage to present a layered vision of “diasporic presence” that intertwines documentary with the constructed, text with image, fact with speculation, personal history with collective history. “How The World Might Be” entangles past-present-future and imagines the possibility of what was and what might or might not be.
