Trenton is a vibrant community brimming with talent and potential. A new initiative is taking that potential to the next level and making education accessible for some of our city’s most deserving residents.
Capital Health’s Trenton Neighborhood Initiative at Mercer County Community College is a unique opportunity for Trenton residents to continue their education and advance their futures. Applicants can obtain up to $5,000 in supplemental financial aid, which is only available for Trenton residents. Rather than a loan, the program provides grants-based funding, which can be utilized for tuition, fees, books, and related program costs. Funding can also be used for childcare and transportation. Up to 16 scholarships are available per academic year.
Through the TNI program, prospective students can enroll in short-term credentialing programs as well as Associate Degree programs for a variety of healthcare-related fields, including:
- Certified Nurse Aid
- Certified Medical Assistant
- EKG Cardiac Technician
- Pharmacy Technician
- Registered Nurse
- Laboratory Technician
…and many more!
The initiative was developed in conjunction with Trenton Health Team to address and correct some of the social detriments to health in the region. The services provided through the TNI program are designed to complement the variety of other health services offered by Capital Health. The Trenton Neighborhood Initiative mainly supports homeownership and rehabilitation, job training and employment, digital equity, and healthy beginnings for new moms and their babies.
As an organization, Capital Health is committed to the health and well-being of the populations they serve. The Trenton Neighborhood Initiative is just one part of Capital Health’s multi-year, $10 million investment into the City of Trenton and its residents. Their partnership with the Trenton Health Team and other community stakeholders helped develop, fund, and execute these life-changing programs. As one of Trenton’s largest employers, Capital Health has committed itself to the employment and career development of those who call Trenton home.
This program would not be possible without the support of Mercer County Community College, one of the premier educational institutions in the Greater Trenton region. Serving both traditional and non-traditional students, MCCC welcomes students from all backgrounds to learn and prosper. Mercer County Community College is an invaluable resource to the region, offering opportunities for education, career training, cultural and youth enrichment, and a variety of another programming to help meet the complex needs of the surrounding communities.
