When it comes to the wide world of shopping, most of us love to indulge in a bit of retail therapy from time to time. But did you know that your purchases have power? Where we choose to spend our dollars has a massive impact on our local economies, and “voting with your dollar” is a powerful tool in supporting the priorities that matter to you. While February is Black History Month, supporting Black-owned businesses is a critical tool for cultivating diversity in our economy all year round. And thanks to the City of Trenton’s upcoming Black History Month Pop-Up Shop, supporting your favorite Trenton-owned businesses is now easier than ever.

On Friday, February 16th, the City of Trenton will be hosting a pop-up shop in recognition of Black History Month. At the market, attendees will have the opportunity to peruse wonderful wares from a number of Black-owned businesses, including a number of renowned Trenton vendors. The pop-up market will be open from 4pm to 7pm at the Trenton City Hall Atrium, located at 319 E State St, Trenton, NJ 08608. If you are a local entrepreneur and are interested in featuring your wares at the upcoming market, please contact Trenton’s Department of Recreation, Natural Resources, and Culture at (609) 989-3860 for more information regarding how you can get involved. A delightful day for both shoppers and vendors alike, this pop-up shop is certain to be the perfect way to kick off your weekend.

Both this month and every month, supporting Black-owned businesses is a wonderful way to support the community’s many entrepreneurs and assure that your dollar remains in the local economy. Furthermore, by intentionally supporting Black entrepreneurs and businesses, you are contributing to the advancement of economic diversity and representation in the retail space. Rather than passing your dollars through the hands of a giant corporation, when you support a small business, you are tangibly contributing to the realization of someone’s dream. An awesome way to support your community and snag some fantastic finds along the way? Where do we sign up!
