Looking for something REEL-y awesome to do this weekend? Look no further than Trenton’s Reel and Restore Day!

On Saturday, June 14th, you are invited to the banks of the Assunpink Creek for the 2025 Trenton Reel and Restore day. Co-sponsors of this beloved annual tradition include the Outdoor Equity Alliance, UrbanPromise Trenton, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, Princeton Hydro, and SPLASH Classroom. This fun-filled and family friendly event will feature hands-on activities, outdoor education, and community enrichment. This year’s Reel and Restore Day will take place from 12pm to 3pm at Trenton’s George Page Park, located at N Clinton Ave & Lawrence St., Trenton, NJ 08638.

Reel and Restore Day is a wonderful opportunity for the Trenton community to gather together, learn more about our region’s natural resources, and connect over the shared spaces which bring our city together. Throughout the afternoon, guests will have the opportunity to participate in a number of activities, including:

  • A stream & park cleanup
  • A nature scavenger hunt
  • Outdoor activities
  • Fishing lessons
  • And more!

This year’s Assunpink Stream cleanup will take place from 11am to 12pm, so be certain to arrive early if you wish to participate. There will also be food and refreshments on-site for participants to enjoy.

Trenton Daily had the opportunity to speak with Aaron Sanchez of the Outdoor Equity Alliance and Eric Martin of UrbanPromise Trenton to learn more about the weekend’s events. Discussing what lies ahead, Mr. Sanchez shared “The Trenton Reel and Restore Day event aims to bring the Trenton community together to learn more about the Assunpink Creek and its importance. Neighbors and community organizations can explore the creek’s current health, understand the work being done to protect and restore it, and discover ways they can get involved.”

Continuing, he shared, “The Watershed Institute and community partners first dreamed up this event in 2022, and it has occurred annually since that first year.  This year’s event planning committee included the Outdoor Equity Alliance, UrbanPromise Trenton, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, Princeton Hydro, and SPLASH Classroom. The goal is simple: to give back to the community by bringing attention to a local treasure that often goes unnoticed — the Assunpink Creek. By learning how to take care of it, we’re not just protecting the environment — we’re investing in Trenton’s growth, beauty, and resilience. When the creek thrives, so does our community.”

Regarding what they hope the community takes from this event, the team shared “We aim for individuals to leave feeling a stronger connection to the Assunpink Creek and be inspired to advocate for its preservation.”

“This event enriches our community by bringing people together to connect with the Assunpink Creek and each other. We hope it inspires pride in our local environment, encourages community involvement, and reminds us that positive change starts here in our local community.” said Sanchez.

Whether you are an avid outdoorsman, an environmental advocate, or are just looking to learn more about the abundance of natural resources in our community, this weekend’s celebration is certain to be a blast.
