How did we get here? This is a question that humanity has been asking itself since the dawn of time. Since the time of recorded knowledge, mankind has been grappling with the massive question of how our planet came to be. While thousands have proposed their theories over the centuries, the most plausible explanation remains the Big Bang Theory. But what exactly does this theory state, and why do we believe it? This big question and more will be unpacked at the New Jersey State Museum’s next installment of Science Under the Stars.
On Saturday, January 25th, the New Jersey State Museum invites you to be a part of “Science Under the Stars: Why Do We Believe the Big Bang theory?”. This fascinating conversation will take place at 4:15pm at the New Jersey State Museum’s state-of-the-art Planetarium, located at 205 W State St, Trenton, NJ 08608. While the talk is completely free to attend, please do note that advanced registration is required. For those planning on coming out, please be sure to register in advance by completing the following enrollment form. Register – Science Under the Stars. Slots for the upcoming conversation will be made available on a first-come, first-serve basis. For guests planning on driving to the event, there is plenty of free parking located in the lots, garages, and streets surrounding the NJSM.
The afternoon’s conversations will center what the Big Bang theory is, how it came to be, and why it became the most widely accepted explanation of how our universe formed. This conversation will also discuss the colloquial differences between how a layperson and a scientist equip the word “theory”, and the significance this term holds within the scientific community. The Big Bang theory, which describes the beginning of our cosmos, has now been confirmed by thousands of observations for over a century. Your host for the afternoon, Dr. Tony Rothman, will present the main pillars of the theory, discuss some unanswered questions of current research and will try to answer any of your lingering questions about the Big Bang.
