No matter who you are or what you do, each of us has been gifted with a tremendous talent. Whether you’re a prolific poet, a serene songstress, or a magnetic musician, the world is a far better place when we take the time to share our gifts with the world. Coming together to celebrate culture and creativity is one of the greatest ways in which we can forge identity, community, and connection. And for those seeking a platform to share, whether it be a poem, a song, or a symphony, all are welcome to step up to the mic at the Trenton City Museum’s Freedom Fridays.
On Friday, July 26th, the Trenton City Museum will once again be presenting an installment of Freedom Fridays, a beloved monthly celebration of arts and culture. Freedom Fridays is an open mic-style event which invites local poets, singers, and artists of all kinds to come together and take to the stage to show off their tremendous talents. This Friday’s festivities will kick off at 7pm at the Trenton City Museum campus, located at the core of Cadwalader Park at 299 Parkside Ave., Trenton, NJ 08606. Guests who plan on driving will be able to access plenty of free and accessible parking located directly outside the museum. Admission for this event is a $5 donation, which helps to support the open mic night and the work of the Trenton City Museum at large.
The highlight of the evening’s events will be the monthly open mic, which invites artists of all ages and levels to take to the stage. If you plan on performing this month, please be sure to arrive with ample time to get signed up. Your host for the evening will be Jane Malloy and Todd Evans. The featured performer for the month of July is Chris Rockwell, a poet and hip-hop artist. In addition to the open mic, attendees of Freedom Fridays can also explore the many exhibits of the Trenton City Museum, including the recently-unveiled 2024 Ellarslie Open. Guests are also welcome to pop by Molly’s Museum Shop, which features a whole host of one of a kind goodies for you to explore. When it comes to kicking off your Capital City weekend, there’s few better places to start than a night of artistry and adventure at the Trenton City Museum.
