It’s a new year, and with that comes new opportunities to get involved in your community.
The James R. Halsey Foundation, a community non-profit inspiring local youth to get creative through the art of film and photography, has put together a jam-packed calendar to get the whole community involved. Over the next few months, the JRH Foundation will be offering a number of engaging events for every member of the family to enjoy, including:
Healing and Harmonizing
Healing and Harmonizing is a nurturing and empowering support group designed exclusively for young women ages 18 and up who have experienced trauma such as gun violence, abuse, neglect and various mental health struggles. These group sessions are held on the 1st, 3rd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 6pm to 8pm. Meetings are held at the James R. Halsey Foundation headquarters, located at 535 E Franklin St Trenton, NJ 08610. Throughout the meeting, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a number of hands-on activities, connect with likeminded peers, and begin the process of healing in a safe, community setting. Spring 2024 Classes
For students in the region looking to learn the art of film and photography, you’re in luck! In just a matter of days, the James R. Halsey Foundation will be announcing the launch of this year’s Let’s Film courses. The Let’s Film Program offers free comprehensive after school film classes where youth take a hands-on approach to learning how to create short films from pre to post production. Youth who participate in the program learn all aspects of the film making process including acting, sound, lighting, and editing. The youth in the program collectively develop characters with a script, film it and prepare the film for a red-carpet premier for family, friends and the community. Youth are also exposed to creating public service announcements, and the filming of documentaries throughout the program.
Red Carpet Night
On Thursday, March 7th, you are invited to join the JRH Foundation for their annual Red Carpet Night. This year’s celebration will begin at 6pm at the Trenton Country Club, located at 201 Sullivan Way, West Trenton, NJ 08628. JRH’s Red Carpet Night is one of the most highly anticipated fundraisers in the region, inviting guests from a myriad of industries and backgrounds to come together to support this incredible work. Throughout the evening, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy food, fun, and performances from some of the region’s top talents. Funds from the evening will go towards supporting and advancing the work of the JRH Foundation, assuring that their programming remains accessible to students for years to come. If you’re interested in attending, you can grab your tickets here: Eventbrite – JRH Foundation.
The James R. Halsey Foundation plays a transformational role in enriching quality of life for students ages 14-18 in Trenton and the surrounding area. By providing opportunities like film and photography education to youth, the JRH Foundation is able to provide a safe, educational creative outlet for those students looking for an alternative to sports. The JRH Foundation is built upon the principle that art is a therapeutic shared language which offers the opportunity to expand minds, bridge the gap between the generations, and begin to break down the barriers of socioeconomic status.
