Tomorrow, November 17, 2020, marks the end of Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) ‘Giving Tuesday’ Fundraising Campaign. The fundraiser aims to provide financial assistance to students in need through scholarships awarded by the Mercer Fund.
To help the initiative take flight, members of the Mercer Foundation Board have stepped forward to donate $10,000 to create a matching gift challenge for the ‘Giving Tuesday’ Campaign. For every dollar the foundation receives in donations, they will match it, making all donations worth double their initial value.
“Because of the pandemic and its economic toll, many Mercer students are facing significant unexpected financial burdens,” says Aamir Rehman, Ed.D., chair of the Foundation Board earlier this month. “It is critically important for us to provide support to them when they need it most. The members of the Foundation Board are honored to participate in the Giving Tuesday Campaign, and our matching gift demonstrates our commitment to Mercer’s extraordinary students.”
As of right now, the foundation has received $5,894.04 in donations. Some departments of the college, including the business and STEM, health professions and liberal arts departments, have created donation teams to raise funds as a collective. Between just those three teams, they have raised $1,138.
Almost 100 independent donors in the community have raised the remaining $4,756. With only today and tomorrow left, MCCC is urging the community to donate by ‘Giving Tuesday’ to double their impact and help the college reach its goal of $10,000.
