On October 15, 2020 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) James Kerney Campus is bringing back its monthly photography sessions, “Third Thursdays.”

The sessions, which began back in the spring of this year, were put on hold amid the global pandemic. However, with a new virtual element, the college is able to showcase and discuss local photography once again.

Professor Chovan-Dalton, the coordinator of the Photography and Digital Imaging program at MCCC said, “I am pleased to kick off our return to Third Thursdays with our moderators Heather Palacek and Habiyb Shu’Aib along with their guests Chrystofer Davis, an amazing street and portrait photographer from Newark, and the acclaimed multi-disciplinary artist, Kevin Hoth from Colorado.”

Davis, who has spent over 11 years as a fine art photographer, film maker and teacher, has been quoted by Peerspace as one of “…the 5 Best Fine Art Photographers in Newark.” His work during the COVID-19 pandemic has also been archived by The New York Public Library Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

Currently, Davis is using his artistic platform to advocate for the importance of film development as well as showcase the many faces and architecture in Newark, NJ.

As Chovan-Dalton mentioned, Colorado artist, Kevin Hoth, will also be featured in the first “Third Thursday.” Chovan-Dalton said, “Hoth will give us a tour of his current solo show live from his gallery and Davis will present some of the recent work he has been making during the pandemic.”

Hoth is a multi-talented artist who works in performance, video and photography. He has shown work in over one hundred exhibitions nationally and internationally, including recent exhibitions at The Dairy Center for the Arts, The Rhode Island Center for Photography, The Houston Center for Photography and The Center For Fine Art Photography.

As an instructor who has taught at multiple universities, including the University of Colorado Boulder, where he has been working since 2011, Hoth is anticipated to share some of multimedia, graphic design and photography skills at the virtual session.
