The Mercer County Improvement Authority recently announced that free recycling buckets are now available for pickup for Mercer County residents. 2500 in total have been ordered, assuring that all county residents in need of a bucket can now gain access to these supplies. This issuance comes on the heels of a number of contractor employee’s collection-related injuries being reported. By using the county-provided buckets, residents can assure that all recycling is collected safely, properly, and in a uniform manner.

Per Mercer County Improvement Authority Director Anthony S. Verrelli, “Recycling coordinators across the county are prepared to provide a county recycling bucket to any resident in need. If residents are unable to obtain a bucket, they can call the Improvement Authority directly at (609) 278-8086.”

In addition to the provided recycling buckets, Mercer County will also continue to pick up flattened cardboard which is placed directly outside the receptacle. If you are a resident and interested in acquiring new buckets, please contact your municipality’s recycling coordinator for further details. If you are a resident of Mercer County, please do be aware that Hightstown and East Windsor do not participate in the county-wide recycling program at this time.

The recycling coordinator for Trenton Mercer County can be reached at 609.989.3151 or by visiting their office at Trenton’s City Hall, located at 319 East State Street, Trenton, NJ 08608. Alternatively, residents can also pick up their cans at the Mercer County Connection Route-33 at the Acme Shopping Center in Hamilton, located at 957 NJ-33, Trenton, NJ 08690. Mercer County Residents can reach the County Connection by calling (609) 890-9800.

We all know that recycling is important, and with a few tips and tricks, you can assure that your collections are correct and can be repurposed instead of winding up in a landfill. When putting out your recycling bins in Mercer County, you will want to assure that you are only using county-provided receptacles. You will also want to assure that the waste you are putting out for collection can be processed by the local facilities. For example, you will want to make sure that containers are free of any organic materials, cleaned out, and fit within the accepted materials guidelines. Please note that there are a number of materials, including hazardous waste, that are not accepted in Mercer County’s single-stream recycling, so be sure to consult with the rules before disposing of your goods.
