On Saturday, February 22nd, the New Jersey State Museum will be hosting its next installment of “Science Under the Stars”. This fun and free monthly lecture series offers guests of all ages and knowledge levels the opportunity to dive deeper into the fascinating world of astronomy. This month’s lecture, entitled “Cosmic Jazz: Sonification of Galaxies”, will center sonification, which is the transformational process of mapping data to sounds. Throughout the afternoon, your host, Dr. Carrie Filion, will provide an illuminating illustration of the tools and techniques underlying these sonifications. Guests will also have the opportunity to learn more about how these techniques are leveraged to understand how our galaxies evolve over time.

This month’s conversation will begin promptly at 4:15pm at the New Jersey State Museum Planetarium, which is located at 205 W State St, Trenton, NJ 08608. For guests planning on driving, there is plenty of free parking available in the lots directly adjacent to the Museum. Guests may also find parking within nearby garages, as well as on the street. While this event is completely free to attend, please do note that advanced registration is required.
