On Friday, March 7th, the New Jersey State Museum will be hosting Homeschool Day. This day of fun-filled activities is designed specifically for homeschooling families, and gives students the chance to come together to set off on a day of exploration. The day’s many exciting happenings will center on art and history, both of which are a prominent focal point of the New Jersey State Museum. From informative workshops to hands-on activities, Planetarium shows, and more, this afternoon of adventure is certain to put the cool back in school.

The day’s events will kick off at 10am at the New Jersey State Museum campus, located at 205 W State St, Trenton, NJ 08608. Registration for this event is $10 per person, including students, siblings, and parents/guardians. For those planning on attending, you can confirm your registration and purchase your tickets online, linked here: Register – Homeschool Day. Registration is open now and will remain open through March 3rd, or until each Planetarium show is full. For guests planning on driving to the event, there is a variety of free parking in the surrounding lots and garages, as well as plenty of on-street metered options.

Throughout the morning, there will be two drop-in workshops available to guests. Workshops will begin on the hour at 10am and 11am. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose from the following selections:

  • Painting With Watercolors (located in the Imagination Studio) – Inspired by the “Robert Duran” exhibition currently on display, explore abstract art concepts and let the creativity flow with watercolors.
  • Building Bridges (located in the STEAM Center) – Learn about the Roebling family from Trenton, NJ and their impact on the Brooklyn Bridge. Test your inventing spirit and make your own model bridges, just like Emily Roebling.

After the workshops have concluded, from 12pm to 1pm, attendees can participate in gallery activities as well as prompted exploration throughout the Museum. This part of the day is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy all the NJSM has to offer and experience the sights, sounds, and magic of the museum.

At the conclusion of the day’s events, guests will have the chance to sit in on an age-appropriate Planetarium shows. The day’s offerings will include a showing of Magic Tree House Space Mission for students in 1st through 4th grade, as well as Arora for students in 5th grade and up.
