Every Monday afternoon from 1 to 6 p.m., Greenwood Avenue is home to one of the healthiest farmer’s markets in the area. The Greenwood Avenue Farmer’s Market, located at 427 Greenwood Ave. (on the corner of Greenwood Ave. and Hudson Street), gives Trentonians access to a wide assortment of healthy foods, resources, and opportunities.

The market features farmers selling fresh produce at a low cost, a mobile meat market, and various vendors including Norz Hill Farm, Isles Inc., Local 130 Seafood, Franca Bakery, and Snapping Turtle Farm. The market gives patrons easy access to healthy and quality foods at a reasonable price. Beyond the provision of healthy foods, the market promotes healthy diets with instructional classes and recipes.

Access to nutritional education, pharmacological services, health screenings, blood pressure screenings and other health services are provided by partnering entities like Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shied, St. Francis, Henry J. Austin Health Center, and Mercer County. The market however works with other entities in the city to provide healthy resources throughout the year. Recently, they started working with corner stores in the area to provide refrigeration units enabling them to sell fresh fruits and produce.

Other market resources include free meals for youth from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and senior assistance programs to help make access to healthy food a little less costly.

The Greenwood Avenue Farmer’s Market is always a vibrant place with music, recreation, and various events throughout the summer and early fall. Harvest Fest, the grand finale, will happen on October 15th and will feature pumpkin painting and healthy trick-or-treating.
