Tonight, October 23rd, the New Jersey Capital Philharmonic Orchestra is bringing music back to the War Memorial with a fanfare of selections honoring America’s history. The orchestra will feature “Liberty Fanfare” composed by John Williams for the re-dedication of the Statue of Liberty on July 4, 1986 and “Appalachian Spring” by Aaron Copland, a profound work that truly evokes the American spirit.
The 75 piece orchestra will include seven actors that will be performing tonight. The Music Director Daniel Spalding is most excited about “Ellis Island: The Dream of America” by Peter Boyer. The concert celebrates the American immigrant experience and the American dream. Innovative in its format, the work brings elements of the theater and multimedia into the concert hall, employing actors and projected historical images from the Ellis Island archives.
“It’s a wonderful work, and what it involves is seven actors; and these seven actors each portray an immigrant who went through Ellis Island in the 20th century… they tell their story and it’s all to musical accompaniment, which is very very strong,” Spalding said. “It’s a very very powerful work…we did it five years ago and our audience was just stunned. There were a lot of people crying. It’s very moving. And so we decided to bring it back.”
Tickets can be purchased Online at Cure Insurance Arena or by phone at 609.656.3225. “The War Memorial is a very large hall so there’s always seats,” Spalding said.
Patriots Theater at the War Memorial (1 Memorial Dr, Trenton, NJ) is requiring audiences to be vaccinated and to show proof of vaccination. Also, masks will be required inside the building.
