Trenton Walks! offers something for everyone in the roster of activities planned for the next round of walks starting today through September 6. For Walks 45 through 53 of a program launched last year, themes for individual walks range from the value of pollinator meadows to a walk that will connect participants to both Stacy and Cadwalader Parks in one afternoon. Our first walk, a tour of downtown Trenton, takes place today at noon, starting at Hub-13 at 13 West Front Street.
History remains a major theme for Trenton Walks! especially with the 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War coming up in 2026. This Sunday, July 6, walkers will be treated to lecture by Historian Paul Soltis about George Washington’s “Journey through Jersey,” followed by a 2.5 mile walk. Then at the last walk of the season, on Saturday, September 6, Historian Bob Barth will lead a hike and talk about canals along the Delaware and Raritan Canal.
Walkers will learn about possible connections from the Lawrence Hopewell Trail north of Trenton down to and through the capital city via a project called the Johnson Trolley Trail. Once that route is complete, walkers and cyclists can safely traverse off road from Princeton to Trenton and back.
Trenton Walks! has come a long way since June 4, 2024, when it was launched to enable people to celebrate trails and the outdoors while getting to know each other. Since then, 436 enthusiasts have taken 44 walks in and around the city, covering 1007 person-miles or the equivalent of walking from Trenton to Orlando, FL!
The Trenton Green Team is the executive sponsor of Trenton Walks! The core collaboration partner is the Mercer County Action Team of Circuit Trails Coalition.
Information about all upcoming walks is shared via the Greater Mercer Transportation Management Association’s website via this link: https://gmtma.org/trail-happenings/ Additional Trenton Walks! will be added in the weeks to come so watch for the very latest information, including weather adjustments.
