Fall is here in full swing, and the time has come time to kick the seasonal celebrations into high gear. With the falling leaves and the cool breeze, autumn is the perfect time to get outdoors and get active. In celebration of another fantastic season, on Saturday, November 2nd, Trenton Youth Soccer hosted their inaugural Fall Festival. Members of the Trenton Youth Soccer program have been hard at work all season long, and this past Saturday’s festival offered these soccer superstars the opportunity to show off their hard-earned skills.  Throughout the day, children of all ages and abilities took to the field of Trenton Central High School for a heart-pounding morning of high-energy fun.

Throughout the morning, students faced off in a 6 vs. 6-style matches, with each student team participating in at least three matches. Participating schools included 6 elementary schools (Copeland, PJ Hill, Cadwalader, Rivera, and McKnight Schools), as well as 3 intermediate schools (Jefferson, Kilmer, and Hedgepath). This year’s Fall Festival marks the first season in which all students had the opportunity to participate in end of season matches at a unified single-site event, rather than through individual games at campuses throughout town. A special thanks is owed to Trenton Central High School and Athletic Director Matthew Paglione, who have played an instrumental role in getting this exciting event off the ground.

Trenton Youth Soccer (TYS), is a recreational soccer program offered to children and youth in Trenton, New Jersey, by PLAY SOCCER Nonprofit International (PSNI). TYS offers participating students free, year-round programming in safe, inclusive, and accessible locations for Trenton’s school-age girls and boys. Programming is open to students of all skill levels, so everyone is empowered to join in on the fun. Since their founding, Trenton Youth Soccer has touched the lives of hundreds of Trenton’s youth, offering students a nurturing environment to learn more about health, mental wellbeing, social inclusion, and of course, all things soccer.

Trenton Youth Soccer, which is proudly approved by the Trenton Public School District Board of Education, works with students ages in grades 1st through 8th across more than 13 school sites throughout the city. Far more than just a place to place, Trenton Youth Soccer has played an instrumental role in helping students grow in confidence, connect with their community, and make connections with their peers.

Per Tito Mason, a Trenton educator and coach of the TYS, “The program was very beneficial for our kids through its lesson planning. Not only did it address soccer skills and learning but it fostered social learning skills needed for our kids to develop and prosper. In addition, TYS is building a community in which parents, students, and school can come together through the venue that is soccer. We were able to have a parent/student game here at Rivera, which was very successful in having the parents come to the school to play and see the skills their kids have learned.”
