Attention all environmental enthusiasts! Young adults with a heart for sustainability are needed to join Isles’ environmental science club at the Trenton Public Library.

In order to inspire the next generation of environmentalists and engineers, Isles will host a youth-centered environmental science club at the Trenton Public Library (120 Academy Street, Trenton, NJ 08608). The first meeting will occur on Tuesday, February 21st, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in the library’s young adult lounge. Subsequent sessions will take place on Tuesday of each week. The club is free to participate in.

The environmental science club aims to inspire future scientists and engineers to get involved in the work of sustainability. During this exciting after-school program, students can conduct experiments, complete design challenges, and learn more about the environment and sustainability. This club is an excellent opportunity for hands-on engagement and experience with STEM topics. This club will also empower participating students to do their part to help tackle some of the complex challenges facing our environment today.

Although sustainability is essential everywhere, it is paramount for cities like Trenton. Data suggests that low-income communities are faced with disproportionate levels of hardship due to climate change. As these communities are already prone to higher rates of health conditions and environmental hazards, this pattern is expected to continue as the climate continues to evolve. By empowering communities to address these factors, they are better equipped to put safeguards in place now, empowering communities to handle better any obstacles that are to come in the future.

Isles, a community development and sustainability nonprofit in the Trenton area, facilitates the club. One such effort is the Trenton Climate Corps, a group of stakeholders devoted to addressing some of Trenton’s most pressing youth and environmental crises. These efforts engage the community and offer residents a chance to be a part of improving the Capital City. The Trenton Climate Corps has partnered with various organizations, individuals, and businesses to carry out these efforts. Together in partnership, the program offers to empower youth programming while increasing the city’s and its residents’ sustainability and climate resiliency. The Trenton Public Library, a beacon of connection and education in our city, hosts this club. Whether you’re on the hunt for your next great read, want to learn a new language, or connect with community members, the library is here to help you meet all those goals and more. Patrons of all ages are sure to find something to enjoy, so take some time to explore the library soon! You can keep up with the library’s exciting calendar of events here: Events – T.P.L.
