For centuries, writers have played an integral role in the fabric of society. From the news we read every day to our favorite books which transport us to new worlds, writing is a powerful way to share our thoughts, resources, and need to know information. For some, writing comes naturally, but for others, much like a muscle, it is a skill that needs to be strengthened and trained. Whether you’re a natural wordsmith or still looking to find your voice, writing is a skill each and every one of us can put to use in our day to day lives. And if you’re a teen in the Capital City looking to dive deeper into the wonders of writing, the Trenton Free Public Library has you covered with a brand-new writing workshop designed with youth in mind.

Beginning on February 6th, the Trenton Free Public Library, alongside Catholic Charities, will be offering free weekly writing workshops to teens in the Trenton area. These workshops, which are open to students in 9th through 12th grade, will aid local youth in strengthening their writing skills and cultivating a passion for the written word. Workshops will be held each week on Tuesdays from 5pm to 6pm. These fun and free workshops are a great way to unwind after school, connect with likeminded peers, and continue to learn long after the school day has completed.

The meetings will be held in the Young Adult Lounge of the Trenton Free Public Library, located at 120 Academy St, Trenton, NJ 08608. The workshops will build off one another from week to week, so be sure to come out for as many sessions as you or your teen can attend. At the conclusion of the workshop, teens who have attended all the sessions will have the opportunity publish an original body of work at the conclusion of the series.

The upcoming teen writing workshops will empower youth to tap into their empathy and emotions in order to enhance their writing abilities. Throughout the series of sessions, youth will learn the necessary skills to capture their thoughts and feelings and put it to paper. Writing is a skill that will carry you throughout your life, whether professionally or personally, and taking the time to tackle this skill as a teen will no doubt pay dividends in your future academic, career, and personal prospects.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more prior to attending, please contact the Trenton Free Public Library at (609) 392-7188 for additional details. Don’t write off these epic workshops, be sure to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for teens.
