The renowned Pablo Picasso once said, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” Art offers us an opportunity to not only escape into a new world, but a chance to look inward and connect with what makes us human. The arts enrich our lives, inform our perspectives, and connect humanity over a shared love and appreciation of creativity. If you’re a young person still deciding what you want to do with your life, a career in the arts can be an enriching, lucrative opportunity which is both personally and professionally fulfilling. If you are a student from either Trenton Central High School or Ewing High School and would like to learn more about a prospective career in the arts, you are invited to apply for this year’s Princeton University Art Museum Summer Academy.

The Princeton University Art Museum Summer Academy is a wonderful opportunity for rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors in the Trenton or Ewing school districts. This two-week program is designed to offer high school students the opportunity to learn more about a career in art museums and the visual arts. Throughout the duration of the academy, students will have the opportunity to work alongside mentors, artists, and professionals from Princeton University and the surrounding region. As a part of their exploration of this incredible field, students will focus on themes of identity, power, and social justice as catalyzed by the arts. At the conclusion of the camp, students will have the opportunity to present a capstone project featuring a work of art, poem, musical piece, or other creative expression, all of which will be featured during a closing celebration.

This program will take place from July 15th through August 2nd, with sessions running Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm each day. All sessions will take place at the Princeton University Campus, with the Princeton Art Museum located at Elm Dr, Princeton, NJ 08544. This program is completely free to apply to, as well as free to attend. Students who are selected to attend will be provided with transportation from Trenton Central High School and Ewing High School at no additional cost. Applications can be accessed here: Apply. All applications are due by 11:59pm on March 24th, 2024. If chosen to move on to the next round, interviews will take place at the Mercer County Library, 2751 Brunswick Pike, Lawrence Twp on April 10, 16, and 17, 2024. Students selected for an interview will be notified by April 3, 2024.
