“Toward the Unknown Region” is one of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ earlier works which explores themes of optimism and hope in the face of the unknown. Williams is a celebrated English artist who emerged in the early 20th century. Throughout his career, Williams would go on to produce operas, chamber music, ballets, and even nine symphonies. Williams is remembered as a pioneer of his time – his works are a definitive piece of 20th-century classical music and his legacy prevails to this day.
A piece of this caliber deserves an equally stunning performance, which is where the Capital Singers of Trenton (CST) come into play. The CST is a select group of vocalists. The group, formed in 2006, is committed to fostering an appreciation of choral music and serves as an ambassador for the arts in the Capital City. Under the guidance of Artistic Director Vinroy D. Brown, Jr., the chorus boasts an expansive repertoire of both secular and sacred works. As they continue to enrich the Trenton community and beyond with the chorale arts, their performance of “Towards the Unknown Region” is sure to captivate.
The Capital Singers will also be featuring the vocal stylings of Daniel Rich, baritone. Rich is noted as an emerging opera singer, recitalist, and concert artist. Some of Mr. Rich’s prior work includes Capital Singers of Trenton, Baltimore Musicales, Opera Ebony, DC Strings Workshop, Brooklyn Ecumenical, South East Queens Ecumenical, Three on 3, CAAPA, NANM, Harlem Opera Theater, and more. Rich has also worked as a music consultant, chorale librarian, music teacher, and adjunct professor of voice at the University of Maryland – Baltimore.
Of course, this performance would not be possible without the guidance of Artistic Director, Vinroy D. Brown, Jr. Brown is a celebrated conductor, musical educator, and consultant whose work specializes in sacred music. Aside from serving as the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Capital Singers of Trenton, Brown is also the director of music at Elmwood United Presbyterian Church, conductor of the Westminster Jubilee Singers, and a faculty member at Westminster Choir College.
