It’s a kicking summer to play soccer in the Capital City!
The City of Trenton recently announced the recipient of their latest round of American Rescue Plan grant funding, Play Soccer Nonprofit International (PSNI). PSNI is a not-for-profit organization committed to bringing high-quality soccer education to children all over the globe. PSNI is also responsible for the Trenton Youth Soccer League, a dynamic group of young athletes learning the ins and outs of soccer in the Capital City. PSNI was recently the recipient of $75,000 in ARP funding. Under the American Rescue Plan, the City of Trenton can allocate federal relief funds to local organizations seeking to benefit local communities and improve children’s health.
The Trenton Youth Soccer League is a recreational soccer league that invites both boys and girls in the city of Trenton to learn more about the incredible sport of soccer. Regardless of skill or experience level, this league welcomes students with open arms and allows them a space to improve their skills. This is a year-round opportunity, with multiple leagues offered during the summer and the school year. Funding will help support the after-school program at nine district schools and the Saturday morning program at George Page Park. Funding will also help support summer programs hosted at other parks throughout the city. More than 500 children registered with the program in 2022, and Play Soccer hopes to grow even further with the help of this funding.
“Play Soccer has been a wonderful partner for City youth for several years. We’re glad to have the ability and opportunity to give back, to thank them for their service to our City’s kids,” said Council President Teska Frisby. Mayor Reed Gusciora noted, “I and many others throughout the city are continually impressed by the work of PSNI. I’m glad we’re able to use this relief funding to help Play Soccer provide more opportunities for kids to have fun and to bond with one another.”
“This grant will greatly help us continue to serve the Trenton community,” said Kurt Lituma, Vice Chair of PSNI. “We at PSNI are so very grateful to the City for awarding this funding to us, and we look forward to collaborating further to spread the love of soccer throughout the City.”
Thanks to the support of the Trenton community, the Trenton Youth Soccer League will no doubt be enriching the lives of our community’s youth in the days and years to come.
