No matter who you are or what you’ve done, there is always a chance for redemption. Your past does not define your future, and with each new day comes the opportunity for your day one. If you are a returning citizen, you may be uncertain of what the road ahead will bring. However, with the right support and helping hands along the way, a brighter future is possible. In order to support our community, the City of Trenton has announced a workshop series to help returning citizens get back on their feet and thriving.
The City of Trenton recently announced their returning citizens workshops, hosted by Never Settle For Less (NS4L) with support from the Office of Returning Citizens. The workshop series kicked off on August 26th, with other workshops being held on Saturday, September 16th and Saturday, September 30th. This event is free to attend for returning citizens, and will require advanced registration. If you plan on attending, guests can register online here: Register – Returning Citizens Wksp. This engaging afternoon of conversation will be held from 12pm to 5pm at Calvary Christian Fellowship Hall, located at 611 Parkway Ave., Ewing, NJ 08618. Transportation and refreshments will be provided to registrants. Upon completion of the guests, attendees will also be awarded with a certificate of completion.
Over the course of the afternoon, guests will have the opportunity to dive into a number of topics critical to their success, including:
- Forgiving: How to forgive the self and others in order to move forward
- Acceptance: How to accept the consequences of your actions and utilize these lessons as a catalyst towards greatness
- Self-love: Understanding the importance of self-love and one’s role in society
- Meditation: How to schedule time for meditation and anxiety remediation
- Personal Branding: How to present yourself to others in the workplace
- Escaping mental imprisonment: How to redirect one’s thoughts in order to concentrate on smart goals
Beyond just addressing the strategic and practical skills required to get back on your feet, this workshop seeks to reach the very core of its attendees. By fostering self-love, confidence, and a strong sense of peace, there is no telling what incredible things will be achieved. As the old saying goes, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and these workshops offer a wonderful opportunity to kick-start your path towards a better life.
This workshop is presented by the Office of Returning Citizens, an incredible resource for the formerly incarcerated in the City of Trenton. In addition to community workshops, this office offers residents hands-on job training, re-entry assistance, and connections to vital community resources. Additionally, the City has established partnerships with both the Mercer County One-Stop Career Center in Trenton and the Fresh Start program hosted by the Trenton Free Public Library. Established by Mayor Gusciora, this vital program is an integral way to inspire our city’s returning citizens, empowering them to take action and take advantage of this new lease on life.
