The foundation laid in early childhood is a catalyst for a child’s bright future ahead. For over 85 years, Camp Fire NJ has been inspiring future leaders, and now they are bringing their expertise to the Trenton Public Library.

On Wednesday, January 18th, you and your little one are invited to the Trenton Public Library (120 Academy St., Trenton, NJ 08608) for a Camp Fire NJ workshop entitled “What is a Count on Me Kid?”. The event will commence at 4pm in the library’s children’s room. The Count on Me Kid program is typically presented to younger children (1st-2nd grade) with the purpose of increasing self-esteem and learning effective skills to overcome peer pressure. Young learners will have the opportunity to learn more about healthy habits, as well as harmful behaviors to avoid. By the end of the event, your child will be equipped with the tools needed to be their best self.

Camp Fire NJ has been igniting the spark in Mercer County youth for several decades. Their hands-on, research-based approach helps to impart critical tools that children need to grow and thrive. Their ‘thrive{ology}’ method is a four-tiered approach to help youth achieve their full potential:

  • Identify sparks: Identifying and growing Sparks and Spark Champions
  • Growth: Adopting a growth mindset, meaning the belief that you can learn new skills all the time
  • Goals: Building goal management skills
  • Reflect: Creating the opportunity to reflect on activities and outcomes

Camp Fire NJ has a team of trained, caring adult mentors who play a key role in aiding youth in developing thriving mindsets. The relationships developed between the leaders and the youth they serve are critical. For youth participants, the adult leaders can be figure in their life who encourages growth, provides support, and expand possibilities. Throughout their many years of programming, 83% of youth say adults in Camp Fire encourage them to explore the things they are interested in, and 82% of youth said adults in Camp Fire help them solve problems instead of telling them what to do. By empowering youth to take an active role in their own lives, children are better-enabled to make wise decisions that will lead to their overall growth.

The outcomes for youth involved in this programming cannot be understated. Through their participation, youth are more likely to:

  • Remain in school
  • Demonstrate social competence
  • Lead a healthy lifestyle
  • Be environmentally conscious
  • Have a sense of purpose
  • Achieve their full potential
