Get ready to roll because Freedom First Fridays are officially back in the Capital City!

First Fridays are back, and Freedom Skate Park is enjoying the fun. Now through the end of summer, Freedom Skate Park will present Freedom First Fridays, a celebration of arts, community, and all things skating. Events will occur the first Friday of each month through September at the iconic Roebling Wire Works building, 675 South Clinton Avenue, Trenton, NJ 08611. The First Fridays events, which are free to attend, will bring together artists, musicians, and skaters to celebrate Trenton’s vibrant skating community.

“Skateboarding has always been intertwined with art and music. From the graphics on the bottom of skateboard decks to the music that gives skate videos their unique feel, art, and skateboarding have gone together since skateboarding began,” said Freedom Skate Park Executive Director Jake McNichol. “Freedom First Fridays not only bring together skaters, artists, and musicians to build connections and foster mutual inspiration, but also shine a spotlight on Trenton’s vibrant cultural scene and welcome more people into the skate community.”

Freedom Skate Park is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization founded in 2018 to provide a safe, legal place for Trenton residents and other skateboarders to practice their skills and build community along the way. Freedom’s signature program is the Trenton Winter Skateboarding Program. This weekly event series takes place in winter when the combination of cold, wet weather and early sunsets makes an indoor park especially valuable. The program includes many exciting events, including skate contests, concerts, LGBTQ+ skate meetups, and art shows.

Freedom also regularly partners with local nonprofits to provide free skateboards and lessons to at-risk youth in Trenton. To date, the organization has given away more than 200 skateboards. In addition, freedom launched Freedom First Fridays in 2022 to build on the success of the Trenton Winter Skateboarding Program and shine a spotlight on Trenton’s vibrant creative scene.

Freedom First Fridays occur from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the first Friday of every month from May through September. All events are free and open to the public. A full schedule of this year’s events is available on Freedom’s website.
