Attention all Trentonians! Does your organization have a great idea to help our community thrive but aren’t certain how to bring that vision to life? Thanks to the team at I Am Trenton, funding and support are only a few clicks away.
I Am Trenton recently announced the launch of their 2023 citywide grant cycle. Individuals and organizations can apply for up to $5,000 in grants to fund projects designed to help uplift the community. Most grant requests are expected to be between $1,000 and $3,000. If you’re interested in learning more but aren’t sure where to begin, I Am Trenton will host informational sessions to prepare you to begin the process. The next virtual information workshop will be held on Wednesday, July 19th, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. All are welcome to apply; however, please note that the applications of people of color, residents of Trenton, and people with lived experience of the issue the project is addressing will be prioritized. Applicants do not need to represent a registered 501(c)3 non-profit. Still, please note that the State of New Jersey and the IRS consider grant funding taxable income unless the receiving entity is tax-exempt. This funding cycle will prioritize smaller-scale, grassroots initiatives. Although larger-scale non-profits are welcome to apply, applications will rarely be considered unless the project is 1.) extremely Trenton-focused and 2.) a strong and compelling explanation is given for why the organization cannot fund it through its regular resources.
If you want to apply, submit your application here: Apply – I Am Trenton. All applications are due by July 31st, 2023. Applications will be accepted in English as well as in Spanish. To make this process as accessible as possible, applicants can upload their Project Details as either a short written essay or a short video explaining the project. The video submissions do not need to be an elaborate production, just a discussion with the camera sharing your thoughts and hopes for your grant proposal. I Am Trenton expects to make all final decisions by September 15th, 2023, at which point applicants will be informed whether or not their proposal was accepted. Grant activities should occur between October 2023 and September 30th, 2024.

Their board features a dedicated and diverse lineup, with no less than 75% of the board being made up of Trenton residents at any given time. The funds raised continue to benefit the community’s well-being, helping to bring a number of positive projects, programs, and initiatives to life.
