With school back in session, many of our community’s scholars have packed up and have left for college for the year. University is a transformative time for young adults, often regarded as some of the best years of one’s life. However, what is meant to be a happy time can quickly be cut short by frustration and confusion surrounding financial aid. Undoubtedly a massive financial investment, college costs are prohibitive for many who would otherwise enthusiastically pursue an education. However, with strategy, knowledge, and some planning, you can tackle even the most challenging aspects of the college experience.

On Wednesday, September 27th, you are invited to join the New Jersey State Library for a financial aid information seminar. This event will be held on Zoom and begin promptly at noon. Although the event is free, advanced registration will be required. If you are interested in participating in this fascinating conversation, registration is available here: Register – NJSL. Whether you are a current student, a recent graduate, or the family of a university student, all are welcome to listen in for this crucial information.

Throughout the afternoon, Jamillah Barker from The Higher Education Student Assistance Authority will help to clear the confusion through their Financial Aid Information Session. This session will provide helpful information on all Federal and State grants, scholarships, and loan programs available through the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Essential information and requirements for filing the FAFSA will be discussed. In addition, the college cost of attendance, the expected family contribution, and their combined role in determining aid will also be covered.

This course is part of the New Jersey State Library’s comprehensive educational events and programming list. The NJSL will curate several webinars focused on history, finances, literature, and more each month. As these events are typically free and held virtually, guests from all over the Garden State will have the opportunity to get involved. If you’d like to read more about the exciting happenings at the New Jersey State Library, you can view their event calendar here: Events – NJSL.

If you have any questions or want to learn more about upcoming events, contact the New Jersey State Library at (609) 278-2640 for additional details. Financial aid is undoubtedly a huge decision and a significant factor in facilitating the college experience. However, after this afternoon of information, you’ll be schooled in whatever your financial future throws your way!
