This weekend, Trenton NAACP, Operation Rebuild Trenton, and the African American Cultural Collaborative presents Building Wealth in Our Communities Financial Literacy Workshop, a 12-part series about rebuilding wealth within the Trenton Community.

The event will be on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the New Jersey State Museum Auditorium. The event will have four panels and a networking lunch for participants to mix and mingle with professionals in Trenton.

Jasi Edwards, the CEO, and Co-Founder of Operation Rebuild Trenton explained that the event happening this weekend is to give out information to Trenton residents about how to stabilize and build their finances.

“In a way, we’re reinforcing and, and teaching more of what they’re learning currently in school and we are targeting the people that missed this education and using this as an opportunity to grow personally, professionally, and have created a legacy to past down,”  Edwards said.

The four panels will focus on Bad Spending Habits: Financially Irresponsible; Credit Building; Investing and Insuring your Future; and Wealth Building Through Ownership. With speakers like Sheldene Millington, Robin Hall, Joanna Morrison, Kaneda Bullock, TC Cuthbertson, Fareeda Stokes, Tracey Syphax, and Patrick Hall.

Edwards is most excited for the grand finale of the event.  “It is going to be so interactive,” Edwards said. “People are going to be on stage, the panelists are going to be walking around off stage giving away a wealth of knowledge and resources. Not just things that you can just write down, but tangible items to get them started in their careers or whatever their personal or professional goals are.”

The event is currently hosting 175 registered guests, 100 adults and 75 students, ages 13 and up. “We do have a standby list…just in case we have no shows and people were coming up to the door and hadn’t registered. Maybe they heard about it too late before registration, or it filled up,” Edwards said.
