Hear ye, hear ye! December is officially here, and with that comes the return of one of Trenton’s most beloved traditions.
Trenton is a revolutionary community, here from the very start of our nation’s founding. It is right here, in the very streets we traverse today, that the battle for the soul of our nation was fought and eventually won. Patriots Week is a cherished yearly celebration that invites residents and visitors alike to take a step back in time and see what life was like as the Capital City was at the epicenter of the Revolutionary War. This year, Patriots Week has a jam-packed schedule with activities for the whole family, including the return of the highly anticipated battle reenactment. The festivities, planned December 26th through December 31st, will feature everything from hidden history tours to a pub crawl, educational talks, hands-on projects, and more.
Although Patriots Week is a memorable component of any winter in the Capital City, this year is particularly special, as the 2023 celebration marks the full return of festivities since the COVID-19 pandemic. In the wake of 2020, many of the Patriots Week festivities, most notably the battle reenactment, were put on pause to help keep our community safe. Now, as we begin to rebuild and reconnect with old traditions, Trentonians can once again looking forward to seeing one of our community’s most prominent traditions back and better than ever.
Patriots Week is a collaboration between the Trenton Downtown Association (TDA), the City of Trenton, and the Old Barracks. This event is also supported and promoted by the Trenton Free Public Library, as well as several community nonprofit agencies and volunteers. Patriots Week enables both locals and visitors from all over the region to explore revolutionary Trenton and dive deeper into the events that defined our nation. A major driver of tourism in our community, history aficionados from all over flock to Trenton for this festive occasion. From a grand Colonial Ball to a traditional celebration of Hogmanay, this week of historic happenings is a celebration unlike any other in the world. With an ever-expanding list of events to choose from, Patriots Week promises to be an experience of historic proportions.
