St. Francis Medical Center has been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as a “high performing” hospital in the specialty of heart attack. The U.S. News & World Report rankings for 2021-22 evaluated more than 4,750 hospitals in the country in 17 procedures and conditions. The annual rankings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care.
“St. Francis is proud to achieve this high performing ranking in Heart Attack from U.S. News & World Report,” said Daniel P. Moen, President and Chief Executive Officer, St. Francis Medical Center. “This honor reflects our steadfast commitment to providing patients with the highest quality cardiac care, even in the most challenging of times. As rooted in our mission, the St. Francis team works tirelessly to not only treat patients but improve access to care that betters individuals’ wellbeing and makes our community healthier.”
U.S. News & World Report’s methodology ranked hospital specialties with one of three
ratings—high performing, average or below average. St. Francis’ high performing score was based on objective measures of quality such as risk-adjusted outcome rates, volume, quality of nursing and other care-related indicators. Hospitals that earned a high performing rating were significantly better than the national average. Fewer than a third of all hospitals received any high-performing rating.
“This year’s expanded report from U.S. News includes new ratings for important procedures and conditions to help each patient pick the right hospital for the type of care they need,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “Hospitals faced incredible challenges this past year, and the best of them have provided great care throughout the pandemic and continue to offer excellent care today.”
“With a prevalence of cardiac issues in our community, access to high-quality care is crucial for residents,” said Moen. “As the only hospital for open-heart surgery in Mercer County, this recognition demonstrates that St. Francis is a leader in cardiac care.”
