On Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Senator Shirley Turner, Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson and Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli will jointly host a male empowerment summit: “Thriving in Today’s Society: Leadership, Advocacy and Empowerment for Men” at Thomas Edison State University in Trenton.
Academic and community partners, UIH Family Partners and The Burke Foundation, are collaborating with Thomas Edison State University to present workshops that will provide men of any age with practical and useful information to help them navigate, succeed and thrive in today’s society.
The timeline for the event will be as follows:
8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. – FREE breakfast, Registration and Health Screenings
9 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. – Welcome and Opening Remarks
9:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. – Opening Plenary- Putting Dad Back Into The Context of Family: Conversation on fatherhood, parenting and fathers being actively involved in the life of their children
9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. – Health, Wellness and Awareness Panel Discussion
10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. – Workshops (You will be asked to select two)
12:15 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Closing Remarks
You will be asked to choose two of the following workshops to attend:
Getting The Job You Want and Managing Your Earnings: Matching your skills and experience to the job you are seeking and how to effectively manage your finances
Advocating For Your Rights via Proper Engagement: Understanding our justice system and your constitutional rights
Education Matters: Understanding the importance of education and using it to successfully navigate our future
