The Revolutionary War is far and away one of the most fascinating pieces of American history. It is through this war that the sovereignty of our nation was won and the republic of the United States of America was officially established. And as a resident of Trenton, our community has a special connection to this time in American life. After all, it is here in Trenton that the tides of the Revolution turned, setting the stage for the eventual victory of US forces.
If one reflects back on this era of history, the first figure to pop into many of our minds is none other than George Washington. It is through his leadership that the American troops were led to victory, and it was under his guidance that the very first presidency was carried out. With such an extensive history under his belt, you may find yourself wishing to hear a recounting of this fascinating tale with General Washington himself. And now, thanks to the Trenton City Museum, you can.
On Saturday, December 2nd, you are invited to spend the day with General George Washington for a fascinating discussing entitled “The Dark Days of the American Revolution”. This exciting conversation will take place at 1pm at the Trenton City Museum, located at 299 Parkside Ave., Trenton, NJ 08606. General Washington will be brought to life courtesy of Samuel Davis, a Trenton native and history enthusiast. Admission for this event is $5 for non-Trenton Museum Society members and $3 for members of the Trenton Museum Society. General Washington will lead guests through a fascinating retelling of the life and times of the Revolutionary War. Guests will have the opportunity to listening in on thrilling details as Washington guides you through the Battles of New York, the Battle of Trenton, the Second Battle of Trenton, and the Battle of Princeton. These consequential battles, many of which were fought in our own backyard, were the turning point of the Revolution, offering our troops the momentum they needed to make it to the finish line. Our General Washington for the day, Samuel Davis, was born and raised in Trenton and served as an educator in Trenton schools for over 30 years. Mr. Davis is also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, and also, much like George Washington, serves as a Freemason.
