This month’s Trenton Public Library Book Club meeting will occur on Tuesday, August 22nd, at 3 pm. The selection for August is City of Thieves by David Benioff. Each month, the Trenton Public Library curates an enthralling selection and invites community members to come together and discuss their thoughts on the book of the month. The club covers several topics and genres, so there’s sure to be a selection for every literature lover! Any readers are welcome, so you won’t miss the opportunity to connect with fellow bookworms in the Trenton community.

This month’s novel, City of Thieves by David Benioff, takes place amidst the Nazi occupation of Leningrad during World War II. The plot follows the two protagonists, Lev and Kolya, through a heart-pounding journey in an attempt to save their own lives. After Lev is arrested for looting, he encounters his cellmate and soon-to-be companion, Koyla. With their lives on the line, Lev and Koyla are offered a peculiar alternative. Rather than being executed, they are assigned a task: acquire a dozen eggs for a Soviet colonel to use in his daughter’s wedding cake. At the same time, this may sound like a simple task from the modern gaze, but Leningrad was desolate and deprived of even the most essential resources. Through ups and downs, brushes with the enemy, and more, this coming-of-age tale will surely resonate with any reader.

A tale that is equal parts harrowing and hilarious, this is one adventure you’ll want to want to come along for. If you plan on attending this month’s meeting, find a copy of the book down at the Trenton Public Library, or purchase a copy of your own here: City of Thieves – David Benioff.
