The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and all over town, signs of springs are filling the air. And when this special season rolls around, many of us are inspired to tidy up our spaces and take part in some good old-fashioned spring cleaning. And while we prepare for warmer days ahead and clear house for spring, did you know that dozens of historic destinations across the nation will be doing the same?

On Saturday, April 6th, you and your family are invited to join the Old Barracks for Park Day 2024. Park Day invites volunteers from throughout the region to come together and lend a hand as the museum prepares for the spring and summer seasons. This day of service is part of the national Park Day program, which is presented by the American Battlefield Trust. Park Day is an annual event which invites volunteers to help keep America’s battlefields beautiful. Some of the parks participating in the day’s events include sites from the Revolutionary War, the Battle of 1812, and the Civil War. Now entering its 28th year, this event has become a beloved opportunity to do your part, get involved, and enjoy a behind the scenes glimpse at some of the nation’s most significant historical destinations.

If you’re interested in lending a hand at this year’s Park Day, please register in advance, linked here: Register – Park Day. The day’s activities will take place at the Old Barracks campus, located at 101 Barrack Street, Trenton, NJ. Attendees are asked to come prepared with their own rakes and gloves. There is also a need for volunteers with vehicles capable of hauling and removing debris. For the safety and well-being of all involved, the Old Barracks asks that all volunteers be at least twelve years of age or older.

All volunteers are asked to arrive for 9am registration. The day’s events will proceed until 1pm, but volunteers are welcome to stay for either part or all of the morning’s festivities. There will be plenty of provided coffee and donuts to go around. As a thank you for your time and service, the Old Barracks will also be providing volunteers with a free tour of the museum after the event. Please do be aware that on Park Day, the Old Barracks Museum will be closed to the general public.
