The Trenton Youth Soccer league is back!  After a year-long shutdown due to COVID, the Trenton Youth Soccer League (TYSL) reopened this summer with a program at Unity (Columbus) Park.  The TYSL has been approved as an afterschool program by the Trenton District Board of Education. As COVID precautions permit, the TYSL will restart its afterschool programs this fall at Trenton’s elementary and middle schools, recreation centers, and the Trenton Housing Authority’s Donnelly Homes.

Starting September 11, 2021, the TYSL will be adding a new additional outdoor Saturday morning session open to Trenton school-age children residents (girls and boys) at George Page Park (N Clinton Ave & Lawrence St, 27 Firth St, Trenton, NJ), from 9-11 a.m., through the fall as long as weather permits.

The TYSL is free and open without regard to skill.  Its mission is to engage Trenton’s youth in a safe, inclusive, and fun recreational soccer program in their neighborhood.  It provides soccer training with age-appropriate physical exercise that supports healthy development and helps children gain physical, social, and emotional skills and knowledge that contribute to a productive, healthy adulthood.  The TYSL was started in 2015 by the nonprofit organization Play Soccer Nonprofit International (PSNI), which has pioneered sport for development since 1999 and has been recognized with awards for its Play for Fun, Learn for Life programming.

The TYSL program embodies the recommendations of the 2021 Trenton Community Health and Wellness Plan, which identified physical inactivity as a key public health challenge in Trenton, along with nutrition and adverse childhood experiences, and made recommendations for actions to be taken by the Department of Recreation and the Department of Health and Human Services in collaboration with other Trenton organizations.

CHILDREN MUST BE REGISTERED BY THEIR PARENT/GUARDIAN WITH PERMISSION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SATURDAY MORNING TYSL PROGRAM.  FORMS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR REGISTRATION AT THE GEORGE PAGE PARK SITE BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 11 AT 9 A.M.

FOR AFTERSCHOOL SESSIONS, REGISTRATION IS ALSO REQUIRED, BUT PLEASE INQUIRE AT INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS OR RECREATION CENTERS for TYSL INFORMATION AS START DATES WILL VARY DEPENDING ON THE INDIVIDUAL SITE.

All afterschool programs will be held twice weekly, starting immediately after school, for 1 and ½ hour sessions in the fall and winter/spring and will climax with a league match arranged with another school.
