Together in collaboration, Mayor W. Reed Gusciora and the Trenton Department of Fire and Emergency Services presents the 2024 Junior Public Safety Academy. This remarkable resource is available to students ages 12 through 16 who reside in the Trenton area. Please note that proof of residency will be required in order to participate in this initiative. This year’s program, which will take place from July 8th through August 21st, will be held at the Trenton Fire Department Headquarters, located at 244 Perry St, Trenton, NJ 08618. Trainings will be held throughout the week from 8:30am to 4:00pm. There is no cost to participate for enrolled families. For more information regarding how your child can get registered for this year’s academy, please contact Shabrea Archie, the Trenton Fire Department’s Community Relations Specialist, at sarchie@trentonnj.org, or call the Trenton Fire Department at 609-989-4038 for additional assistance.

Throughout the summer, this fun and informative program will offer youth the opportunity to enjoy hands-on, real world training regarding critical public safety topics. The program scope will cover public safety education, public safety certification, community service, and team-building excursions. As a part of the training program, students will have the opportunity to tag along on a number of social and cultural trips pertaining to public safety. Students will also have the opportunity to pursue certification in a number of crucial public safety trainings, including: boating safety, CPR, AED certification, first aid, blood-borne pathogens, fire extinguishers, introduction to scuba diving, stop the bleed, introduction to drones, rope safety, and more. Many of the trainings and certifications provided are the same as those offered to adult learners, offering a challenging but rewarding curriculum to participating students. By the conclusion of the summer, students will walk away with a number of newfound skills, as well as credentials which will serve them both now and in the years to come.

This program is offered by the brave men and women of the Trenton Department of Fire and Emergency Services. Guided by their core values of excellence, courage, community, diversity, and service, these fearless firefighters and public safety officers play an integral role in making sure every resident of Trenton remains safe and sound in the community we share.
