Prepare to set sail because Canoe Club is back in the Capital City!

The City of Trenton has officially launched the return of the Canoe Club. This beloved initiative was a massive success during its inaugural year in 2022 and is now back and better than ever for the 2023 season. Now through November, Trentonians of all skill levels will be able to try their hand at this exciting activity. Whether you’ve been on the water for years or never so much as held a paddle, all are welcome to try their hand at this fun and relaxing outdoor activity.

All launches for this year’s Canoe Club will be held at Cadwalader Park, 36 Parkside, Trenton, NJ 08618. All boat launches will occur behind the park’s playground at the base of the steps under the bridge, which crosses the Delaware and Raritan Canal. Launches will be held on weekdays from 1 pm to 6 pm and on weekends from 8 am to 4 pm. The program is open to any resident of Trenton, so do not hesitate to bring the whole family along. During open hours, there will be experienced rowers on site and lifeguards to ensure that all participants are safe and equipped with the tools needed for a successful voyage. Please note that canoeing will not be held during that time in heavy rains, lightning, thunder, or other inclement weather.

So why canoeing? In addition to being a leisurely way to spend the afternoon, it can offer participants some compelling mental and physical health benefits. Canoeing is a low-impact activity that provides an accessible avenue for movement for participants, young and old. Canoeing is linked to several physical improvements, including strengthened cardiovascular health, improved strength and flexibility, and support for bones and joints. Besides your physical health, canoeing can also aid in lessening stress, offering participants a meditative means to get their movement in. Whether you canoe for your health, to ease anxiety, or just for the plain fun of it, one thing is clear: a day on the water is just the healthy hobby the doctor ordered.

This program is presented by the City of Trenton’s Department of Recreation, Natural Resources, and Culture. In addition to the Canoe Club, the city offers a variety of family fun, including basketball and soccer leagues, community movie nights, the annual Fishing Derby, and so much more. This department is also in charge of the city’s many pools, parks, and recreation facilities, assuring that safe, accessible fun is available for all residents of Trenton. If you’d like to read more about additional programming and recreation opportunities, please visit the city’s website here: Dept. of Rec. – Home.
