The City of Trenton received more than $3 million in COVID-19 related aid from the New Jersey Department of Community Affair’s (DCA) Local Government Emergency Relief Fund.
These funds reimburse local municipalities for financial losses incurred from combatting the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the $3 million, $1.9 million went to public safety-related salaries and overtime for City health department and other emergency personnel, including police and fire. The remainder of the funds went to COVID-19 testing, cleaning and sanitizing city properties and vehicles, personal protective equipment (PPE), thermometers and thermal scanners and telework expenses.
The funds are administered through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
“We’re grateful for the work of our first responders who have battled the pandemic on the front lines for nearly a year now,” said Mayor Gusciora. “Thanks to the CARES Act and critical assistance from DCA, the City of Trenton can recover a large portion of these costs, leaving us in a better position to emerge from this crisis in the best way possible.”
