Owning a pet is a wonderful experience – our furry friends show us love and companionship, and they quickly become a part of our families. You can show your pet some love by attending the city’s annual Rabies Clinic and Pet Food Pantry.
On Saturday, January 21st, the City of Trenton will host its annual rabies clinic and pet food pantry. The event is open to Trenton residents, so please bring a valid form of ID to verify residency. Both cats and dogs are welcome to the event. All animals in attendance must be at least six months old to participate. Please note that if you bring your pets, all cats must be kept in a carrier, and all dogs must be on a leash. The clinic and pantry will be held at the Trenton Animal Shelter (72 Escher St., Trenton, NJ 08609) from 10 am-2 pm.
At the event, guests can access various resources to keep their pets happy and healthy. First, attendees can utilize a pet food pantry, helping pet parents guarantee their companions have access to the nourishment they need. A rabies clinic will also be available to help protect your pets from disease. The rabies vaccine is a critical component of healthcare for cats and dogs – without it, you and your pet are at risk. All animals over three months are considered eligible to receive the vaccine. After receiving the first vaccine and a booster, pets six months or older will receive a three-year duration of immunity. Additional details regarding rabies vaccine guidelines are available here: NJ DOH – Rabies.
With January upon us, now is also the time to ensure your dog’s licensure is up-to-date in the City of Trenton. By January 31st, all dogs six months or older must be licensed in the city. The license must be renewed annually. To qualify, you must present a copy of your pet’s proof of rabies vaccination and, if applicable, a certification from a veterinarian stating that the dog has been spayed or neutered. If your dog has been spayed or neutered, the license fee is $12; otherwise, the license will cost $15 if the dog has not been sterilized.
To renew your license, please include a check or money order address to the City of Trenton at Office of Vital Statistics – Dog Licenses, 319 E State Street, Trenton, NJ 08608. If you have any license questions, please get in touch with 609-989-3236 to speak to a representative. If you have any other questions not related to licenses, please feel free to contact the Trenton Humane Law Enforcement and Animal Services office at 609-989-3254. If you no longer have your dog, please inform the office so they can update their files.
