Election Day is coming up on Tuesday, November 7th, so before you head to the polls, make sure you are prepared with all the information you need to vote with confidence!
Election season is officially here, and if you haven’t already made your decision, now is a great time to begin your research on the candidates on the ballot. In this upcoming election, Trentonians will once again have the chance to make their voices heard in a number of important local, county, and state elections, including:
- State Senate (State)
- General Assembly (State)
- County Executive (County)
- Sheriff (County)
- Board of County Commissioners (County)
- Board of Education (Local)

This will give you an opportunity to see who is up for vote, as well as get a feel for what you’ll fill out when you enter the voting booth. Whether this is your first election or you’ve been voting for decades, it’s always a good idea to be prepared when it’s your turn to cast your ballot.
Once you have a plan for how you’re going to vote, the next step is to figure out where you’re going to vote. Across Trenton’s four wards, there are a number of convenient polling locations right in your neighborhood. Each district of Trenton has been assigned a specific polling location, so it’s imperative to know exactly where you need to go. If you have any questions regarding identifying your specific polling location, please call the Office of the City Clerk at 609-989-3187 for further clarification.
Finally, before you go to the polls, it’s important to make sure you’re registered! You can check on your current voter registration on New Jersey’s Voter Search, available here: Voter Search. If you find out that you aren’t yet registered to vote, unfortunately, it is too late to vote in this upcoming election. However, that doesn’t mean you have to sit the next one out! New Jerseyans can register to vote at any time here: Register to Vote. In order to register to vote in New Jersey, individuals must be:
- A United States citizen
- At least 17 years old, though you may not vote until you have reached the age of 18
- A resident of the county for 30 days before the election
- A person not serving a sentence of incarceration as the result of a conviction of any indictable offense under the laws of this or another state or of the United States.
Making sure that you’re registered and actively participating in elections is an important way to do your part for your community, state, and country. As Americans, the ability to vote is an integral part of our freedoms and a key mechanism in forming a more equitable, prosperous society for the next generation.
