Mayor Reed Gusciora’s proclamation of as #GivingTRENTON Day begins a citywide effort to encourage donors to support local nonprofits and keep resources in our community.
#GivingTRENTON Day builds on #GivingTuesday, a national day of charitable giving celebrated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. #GivingTuesday was launched in the US in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season (Black Friday and Cyber Monday).
In just seven years, #GivingTuesday has engaged more people in charitable giving and demonstrated the power communities have to create change. In 2018, #GivingTuesday raised more than $400 million, engaging 110 community coalitions in 150 countries.
Trenton is home to roughly 545 nonprofits, according to IRS records. #GivingTRENTON creates an opportunity to rally our community to recognize and support the many ways nonprofits benefit our city and our neighbors.

#GivingTRENTON Day is an opportunity to join a national movement, and make a difference in our community. But donors can give local any time! Many end-of-year fund-raising campaigns provide special tax benefits for gifts made during 2019.
Participating nonprofits include members of Trenton Health Team’s Community Advisory Board, such as Arm in Arm, Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, Medina Clinic, Foundation Academies, The Children’s Home Society, Isles, Inc., the Trenton Downtown Association, Meals On Wheels. Children’s Futures, and Trenton Health Team.
