Nothing says summertime like the farmer’s Market: perusing the vendors for your favorite farm-fresh goodies is the perfect way to kick off the day and enjoy some fresh air. It’s also an excellent way to connect with local vendors, explore regional cuisine, and have peace of mind knowing exactly where your food came from. This summer, Trentonians can look forward to afternoons at the Market again because the Greenwood Avenue Farmer’s Market is getting ready to launch for the 2023 season.
Beginning on June 26th, the Greenwood Avenue Farmer’s Market will return and be open for business. Every Monday from 12 pm to 4 pm, guests can peruse the fine selections offered by a host of exciting vendors. From farm-fresh produce to local smoothies and more, there are sure to be goodies to tantalize every set of tastebuds. The Market will also offer free summer meals for children, which will be served from 1 pm to 3 pm. The Market will run through the season, with the final date for the summer set for August 24th, 2023. The Greenwood Avenue Farmer’s Market is located at the corners of Hudson and Greenwood Avenue, and free parking is available for patrons.
More than just a spot to pick up your produce, the Greenwood Avenue Farmer’s Market is integral in helping to negate food insecurity in our community. One of the ways the Market helps keep food available and accessible is by offering matching incentives for SNAP, WIC, FMNP, and SFMNP purchases. Curators of the Market also strive to ensure that all products offered are local, healthy, and culturally appropriate to the population they serve. By working with regional vendors, the Market can also promote the economic development of local farmers, growers, and entrepreneurs.
The Market plays an invaluable role in the community, giving residents access to the tools and resources we all need in addition to food access; the Greenwood Ave. Farmer’s Market also offers residents access to health screenings, physical fitness activities, nutrition education, music, games, and more. All ages and stages are welcome, and anyone from children to seniors can get connected with game-changing resources and opportunities. This summertime staple is in the business of changing lives, and they’re making their mark one customer at a time.
The Greenwood Avenue Farmer’s Market is a venture of the Capital Area YMCA. The YMCA, alongside the JFCS of Mercer County, continues to catalyze the Market to make impactful changes in the lives of families throughout the community. In addition to the farmer’s Market, the Capital Area YMCA offers several vital resources to Trentonians, including:
- Child care
- Summer camp
- Fitness
- Food access
And so much more! One of the first in the nation, the Capital Area YMCA was initially opened in 1856 and remains committed to its founders’ mission and values. The Capital Area YMCA recognizes the specific needs, issues, and opportunities facing the Trenton community and leverages its position as a community organization to continue its genuinely life-changing work. With a core commitment to our children, promoting healthy living, and social responsibility, the YMCA will undoubtedly continue to uplift our community for future generations.
