It’s almost International Archeology Day! Can you dig it?

If you and your family are interested in unearthing some fascinating finds, you will not want to miss the New Jersey State Museum’s upcoming celebration of International Archeology Day. This festive day of educational fun will be held on Saturday, October 21st from 10am to 3pm at the New Jersey State Museum’s campus, located right in Downtown Trenton at 205 W State St, Trenton, NJ 08608. This informative afternoon features hands-on demonstrations, activities for all ages, and more.

When you first arrive at the museum, guests will be greeted with a welcome table featuring archeological information and giveaways. Please note that any giveaways are on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to swing by early before supplies run out. Afterwards, you and your family can enjoy a gallery talk at noon in the museum’s exhibition “History Beneath Our Feet: Archaeology of a Capital City.” This exhibit highlights urban archeology, specifically those remains found right here in Trenton, illuminating the world of discoveries lurking right beneath every step.

Once you’ve had a chance to learn more about archeology, guests can turn this knowledge to action in the museum’s Imagination Station, where you’ll be able to enjoy a number of hands-on activities related to all things archeology. Finally, guests can kick back and enjoy a screening of “Raritan Landing: A Road to the Past”, a short film which will be shown in the museum’s A Much Moved People gallery, located in the NJSM’s lower level. No matter your age or archeological background, the whole family is certain to have a blast.

Whether you’re into the history of dinosaurs, the evolution of man, or the traces humanity has left behind in its history, there’s always something to discover in the archeological world.
