Democracy, a government for and by the people, is the ideal upon which this nation was built. It is through democracy that our populous is empowered to make their voices heard, engage in the free exchange of ideas, and play an integral part in shaping the future of our government. However, democracy, like a muscle, is something which must be regularly strengthened in order to assure its continued success. Understanding the roots of democracy and the lived experiences of those who fought for it is a critical means in which our society can continue to uphold these principles for generations to come. To learn more about this critical intersection, please join the 1719 William Trent House for their latest seminar, “Authentic History and the Future of Democracy”.
On Sunday, October 15th, you and your family are invited to the William Trent House Visitor Center for a compelling conversation on history, democracy, and how the two intersect in the formation of a more perfect union. The conversation will be held in-person at the Trent House Visitor Center, located at 15 Market St, Trenton, NJ 08611. If you plan on attending, there is plenty of free parking available adjacent to the property. While the event is completely free to attend, please note that advanced registration is requested. For those planning on attending, you can sign up in advance here: Register. Space is limited and slots will be given on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to enroll as soon as possible.
This roundtable discussion will be the William Trent House’s second annual Community Conversation on Democracy. Over the course of the afternoon, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments as they discuss a plethora of important questions, including:
- Why is knowing our past important to strengthening our democracy today?
- Why is it important to have authentic stories – your own and others – told and heard?
- How can we make sure that others have the opportunity to tell their stories and have their stories heard?
