With school almost out and the summer heating up, teens across the community are left wondering where to turn for an unforgettable summer. This year, take a dive into the creative arts as the James R. Halsey Foundation invites you to be a part of this year’s fascinating summer sessions.

Registration is now open for the James R. Halsey Foundation’s free summer programs. If you or the teen in your life has an interest in acting, photography, or the creative arts, you’re certain to love this year’s exciting calendar of programming. The Foundation will be offering two free 10-week sessions for teens ages 14-18. Courses will be held every Wednesday from June 28th through August 30th at the Trenton campus of Mercer County Community College, located at 137 N Broad St., Trenton, NJ 08608. Attendees are able to choose from the following sessions:

  • Outdoor Photography (4:00pm to 6:00pm): Get ready to snap some pics in the great outdoors! Teens will have the opportunity to learn the skills and techniques needed to succeed in the world of outdoor photography.
  • Building a Character (6:00pm to 8:00pm): If you’re interested in acting, this is the course for you! Students will have the chance to learn about the skills and research needed in order for an actor to bring a character to life.

Attendees are invited to enroll for one or both of the summer programs. If you plan on attending this season, guests are invited to register here: Registration – JRH Foundation. All courses will also be offered in Spanish. If you are registering for the sessions taught in Spanish, please enroll here: JRH Foundation – Español.

Whether attending teens are lifelong artists or just getting started in a new outlet, all stand to benefit from arts education. Per the National Endowment for the Arts, arts education can offer a whole host of benefits to participating students. In addition to honing your craft, the arts can also be a powerful tool in helping students understand the world around them. The arts allow us to expand our horizons and dare us to ask what is possible. Participation in the arts also empowers students to develop team-working skills, cultivate self-confidence, and foster a sense of discipline that will carry them all throughout their lives. This is a fun and free opportunity to take the first steps on a creative journey, setting the stage for a summer you won’t soon forget.

These courses are offered by the devoted team at the James R. Halsey Foundation, a non-profit devoted to improving the lives of youth through arts education. With a particular emphasis on youth ages 14-18, the JRH Foundation seeks to offer teens a meaningful alternative to sports and gives young people the chance to pursue a creative outlet with other likeminded peers. Their programming provides young people in our community a safe space full of encouragement, support, and education, helping to transform their lives for good in the process.
