Since its establishment in 2016, the Smith Family Foundation has been working immeasurably to improve the lives of residents within the City of Trenton. In doing so, the family-oriented organization extend help to the city by empowering and providing funds and Transformative Leadership Development Workshops to other organizations in the Trenton area.

One of the organization’s value being education, this summer, the Smith Family Foundation is giving back to the first year college students of Trenton. August 6, 2019 will mark the organization’s third year for hosting their College Freshman Care Package Event. The Smith Family Foundation recognizes the hardships placed on the families of low-income high achieving students who enroll in college. To alleviate some of the distress caused by the costs of college tuition, the Smith Family Foundation will gift rising college freshmen with a college care package August 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The college care package includes non-perishable goods and other college essentials such as laptops, mini-fridges, laundry detergent, etc.

In 2018 the Smith Family Foundation, with the help of The College of New Jersey’s Educational Opportunity Fund, were able to provide 230 care packages to first generation college students, 130 more care packages than their first event in 2017. Accepting applications since May 1st, 2019, the organization looks forward to providing even more students with care packages this August.
