The American Repertory Ballet presents The Nutcracker today, Saturday, December 21, at the luxurious Trenton War Memorial building in a single matinee show at 2:00 p.m. This renown ballet company delivers the beloved Christmastide classic to the stage with Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score, stunning new sets, thrilling choreography, and a cast of over 100 performers.
The American Repertory Ballet says, “ARB’s professional company will be joined by students from Princeton Ballet School to tell the story of a young girl and how a mysterious gift brings about enchanted dreams and fantastical scenes. On evenings and weekends, free parking is available in the state parking lots on Memorial Drive near the War Memorial. There is handicapped parking beside the War Memorial on West Lafayette Street, available on a first-come, first-served basis. The War Memorial is fully ADA compliant.
The War Memorial is owned by The State of New Jersey and operated by the NJ Department of State, which explains, “Opened in 1932, The War Memorial was built as “a great community center” dedicated to the memory of the soldiers and sailors from Mercer County who died fighting World War I. The building is a National and State Historic Site. The aim of the founding War Memorial Committee was to combine “beauty, dignity, and civic utility.” The building houses an 1,807-seat, fully-equipped theater for performances and assemblies, and also a number of stately rooms for other purposes such as meetings and conferences.
