March is underway, and that officially means a new novel to enjoy courtesy of the Trenton Free Public Library’s Adult Book Club. This month’s featured selection is “All Quiet on the Western Front”, a classic novel written by Erich Maria Remarque. This month’s meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 26th at 3pm. All meetings of the Adult Book Club will take place at the Trenton Free Public Library campus, located at 120 Academy St, Trenton, NJ 08608. If you’re looking to get your hands on a copy prior to the meeting, you can of course check it out from your local library, or you can purchase a copy of your own, linked here: All Quiet On the Western Front.

All Quiet On the Western Front follows Paul Bäumer, a nineteen year old German soldier fighting along the Western Front in World War I. Prior to his life on the battlefield, Paul was a student in a quaint German village, where he lived with his parents and sister. Inspired by the rousing words of his teacher, he and his entire class were inspired to join the Imperial German Army. After joining the forces and for the first time facing the hardship of war, Paul returned to his home village, plagued with the physical and psychological terrors of war.

Unable to share about the trauma he has endured, Paul is stifled and left wishing he’d never returned home in the first place. Upon his return to the company, the horrors of war continued until it became too much for this young man to bear. This harrowing tale highlights the trials, traumas, and tribulations associated with life on the frontlines, and how enduring these hardships impacts life on the other side. A raw look inside the mind of a soldier, this enduring novel is a must-read for any literary enthusiast.
