The Trenton Police Departments Community Affairs Unit, along with Director Sheilah Coley, Starbucks and The Trenton Fire Department delivered toys to children across the city on December 22nd through their holiday ‘Cops and Kids’ caravan along with a donation of 50 food baskets to senior citizens of Trenton.

Earlier this month, The Trenton Police Department placed donation boxes in the local Starbucks on 102 South Warren Street and at Trenton Police Headquarters, where the community and city police officers could donate toys. The toys were not asked to be wrapped, just dropped off at the most convenient box location.

On December 16, The Trenton Fire Department made a generous donation to the drop box at the Starbucks location. The department said in a post on its Facebook page, “Today our Trenton Fire Department surprised us with toys, bikes and gift cards to help us fulfill and complete our toy drive. We started this toy drive for the family’s the Trenton Police Department and Starbucks Trenton have adopted this year. We are so filled with overwhelming love and support from our Trenton community. The love we have for our community is truly endless.”

A flyer was posted to The Trenton Police Department’s Facebook page asking the community to provide the name of their family or other families that may be in need of a toy to gift to their children this holiday season.

On the day of the donation, Peterson Breaking News of Trenton spoke with Director Coley, who noted, “In the spirit of giving, there’s always families that we can help and we can do more, so that’s what our objective is today. We’re about to deliver toys to 40 different families. We tried to be very careful in our selection. They’re families that have been adversely effected by the violence that plagued the city this year. It’s just a little something, but we’re trying to give back in any way that we can.”

After the distribution, The Trenton Police Department took to Facebook to thank the community for their support in providing toys for children in need of a holiday present. “We would like to thank the families that reached out by our deadline as we are thankful to have been able to assist you this holiday season. Thank you to our officers, Starbucks, Trenton Fire Department, and our community for donating toys this season.

“We would like to thank all those who joined us at Trenton Police Headquarters for our send off including Director Coley, Mayor Reed Gusciora, and Councilman Joseph Harrison. We look forward to next year in bringing more cheer during the holiday season,” said the Trenton Police Department in a recent Facebook post.
