Join Trenton Social this May as they welcome the work of artist Anne Hoskins in a solo exhibition of Fallow on display from May 6th to 31st. An opening reception will be held as part of the Trenton First Fridays on Friday, May 6th from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Trenton Social.
Anne Hoskins is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Hamilton, New Jersey. She is an Ohio native, and a graduate of Otterbein University with a degree in art, with concentrations in ceramics and painting. Hoskins works in a variety of mediums including, painting, photography, digital illustration and works by day as a professional photographer.
Fallow features a selection of works completed during Hoskins’s first decade living in New Jersey. Created through an explosive, physically intensive process, this collection of abstract paintings combines spray paint, acrylics and gesso. “This body of work is a succinct representation of movement, subtlety and natural shapes,” comments exhibition curator Brass Rabbit. “One of my favorite aspects of Anne Hoskins’s work is the wide variety of sizes she creates. This exhibit will have over 100 pieces, ranging sizes of 36 by 48 inches to 1 by 1 inch.”
Hoskins comments, “growing up in my Mother and Grandmother’s ceramics studios, raised with tiny brushes and horrible posture, I developed a strong affinity for working small and graphically oriented. When my wife and I moved to Hamilton, and I finally had access to studio space, I wanted to go BIG, and I wanted to venture away from the world of functional art. I decided to get back to canvas and break out of my established creative habits. I needed a way of mark-making that felt organic and cathartic, while still feeding my need for beauty, and expression.”
Trenton Social is located at 449 S Broad St, Trenton, NJ and is open Monday to Sunday from 5pm-2am.
